Getting A Group Underway?
Here are some pointers.......
- Set the date & time & location with several others
- Together decide on a program - this will be important to refer to in your invitation to others so folks know what to expect
- Plan to have some music and refreshments for your gathering.
- Send out invitations and follow up with a phone call.
- At the event have sign up sheets so interested attendees can be connected

- Give presentation on Peak Oil and Climate Change with power point & moderator or open discussion
- Host a film nite on Peak Oil & Climate Change and solutions being offered around the globe using available movies
- Plan a reading, poetry or discussion group - use the Transition Handbook or any other good relevant text as a stimulus
- Find a local gathering - such as a neighborhood film nite, a block party, a concert and give a 10 minute "awareness presentation"
- Host a knowledgeable speaker & hold a question / answer session
- Plan a swap party - recycling your things with each other - and sharing transition ideas or solutions with each swap
- Have a potluck theme party - make each dish reflective of a transition town idea or solution
- Meet at a local restaurant that serves local food and have a "power" breakfast, lunch or dinner
- Host a "face off " with expert or just interested citizens of wind vs solar vs nuclear vs electric vs geothermal etc

- venue finder - where can groups meet
- technical contact - be or find a contact for latest info in each field (wind / solar / geothermal / peak oil / permaculture / building design)
- statitician - compile useful statistics in very strict summary form for presenters to have at fingertips
- event ideas - make a list of events to create awareness, unity, education etc
- e-newsletter writer - put together something for public dissemination
- minutes keeper - write up each meeting to keep a history for the group
- grant writers - find opportunities for funding & write proposals
- film critic - find & review relevant videos & tell where to get them
- director of fun - list as many ideas as you can for meaningful fun / games to keep groups enlivened while simultaneously learning & sharing
- fundraising fanatic - contact fundraisers and find as many ways for the group to fund its activities as possible
- contact & connect people & groups to make them aware of Transition Towns & ask them to join our initiative
- identify projects underway already in your area & make a list for awareness & for shared activities
- update web site with anything and everything helpful to the cause
- any other thing you can thing of that will help the group "go" !
