Local Government Action Group

Connecting our voices to local government for change

What we're doing :

• Gathering info for a Local News Resource Guide

• Continued our work in most every area below What we've done:

• Held a presentation & discussion  in  Jan , 2012  of Gasland - a film by Josh Fox
Presented by Transition Cheltenham and Protecting our Waters Sunday Supper film and discussion. Met some neighbors and got an up-close and personal view of Fracking .  Saw the film that "tells it like it is" and learn what may be in store for your water supply.

• Assisted  with October 2011 Meet Your Candidates for Commissioner

• Transition Cheltenham joins The League of Women Voters Cheltenham Chamber of Citizens, Citizens’ Call, Melrose Park Neighbors’ Association, We The People of Cheltenham and Wyncote Civic Association invite you to…  MEET THE CANDIDATES  For Township Commissioner - Wards 1, 3, 5 & 7 Wednesday, October 26, 2011   7:30 to 9:30 PM  Curtis Hall    click here for all the details

• Organized a support group to  travel to give comment in Trenton
to the DRBC regarding the Marcellus Shale  Nov  2011
Happily - this was cancelled when the Delaware Governor said he would vote NO . We're not out of the woods yet - but score one for the many, many people who raised their voices in protest.

• Developed a Fracking Facts sheet on Marcellus Shale drilling, also in PDF format - great for handing out at events!

• Aided Protecting Our Waters in  organizing and executing a successful Rally for Marcellus Shale Awareness on Sept 7, 2011

• Helped organize two  Democracy School  sessions in conjunction
with We the People of Cheltenham October  2010 & 2011

• In May 2010 we Gathered the Genius  bring local groups together for a giant "Brainstorming "

• Developed a list of Recommended Books with brief Reviews for those wishing to study & reclaim our democracy

• Took  food, clothing, blankets and supplies to the Occupy Philadelphia movement at City Hall  Sept 2011
