What we're doing now
• We are promoting development of a safe bike and walking route
from the greater Olde Wyncote area to Cedarbrook Jr. High School. A
significant extension of this proposed route would also provide safe
walking and biking access to the school for Lynnwood gardens and and
the area east of Washington Lane around Ashbourne road.
On July 14 eight of us, including two members of the PA
Environmental Council, conducted a formal bikeability audit of the
projected route. We inspected the entire route, took pictures, and
filled out an assessment form used by Philadelphia authorities to
plan city bike routes. The critical point in this route is the
intersection of Church and Bent roads, a high traffic choke point
that has to be made safe for traversing, especially by children
Plans to identify and implement all the steps that it will take to
transform a vision into reality include consideration of the cost -
in the tens of thousands of dollars range. Grants are available for
projects of this type that are well thought out and documented.

What we've done:
Organized a power-down event
The Un-Car Picnic where everyone arrived by bicycle, bus, train
or feet. Held on June 27, 2010. Safe roads to bike to the picnic
were marked in advance.
